I think in jr high and my freshman year of high school I was certainly in the D crowd....
My sophmore year of high school I decided I wanted to be popular. I used my smarts to play the system and I would argue by the end of highschool I had ascended my way into the B+/A- social structure.
I do agree that with a high enough intellect you can learn to play the system and ascend to a much higher social point.
