Old School Democrat Defends War on Terror

Orson Scott Card, noted sci-fi/fantasy author and an "old school" Democrat, has written what I would consider the most comprehensive short-essay on the current state of American foreign policy. His explanations and insights are a must read. I can find absolutely nothing wrong with his analysis. He clearly articulates the complexities and subtleties that so many people fail to grasp.

It is long...but worth the investment of your time to read.

You can not HONESTLY tell me a person of Orson Scott Card and Your intelligence actually believe this paragraph

"Instead, President Bush has offered something quite different. We don't want to turn you into mini-Americas, he says. We offer you, instead, democracy, in which you can choose for yourselves what parts of western culture to adopt. You will govern yourselves. It isn't a choice between wickedness and righteousness, it's a choice between freedom and oppression.

In other words, through nation-building, through the promise of democracy, Bush has created a rallying point with far stronger resonance than anything the Islamic puritans have to offer. "

I DO NOT disagree with Card as a whole. I think he is mostly right. But a people who have no historical background for a separation of Church and State... and no period of philosophical enlightenment CAN NOT succeed under Democracy. Democracy will be a SHORT LIVED transition between two Islamifascist governments.

If I can get my Essay finished you will see what I present as a far better long term answer to the war on terror.
